Commission Process
1- Choose a size and medium
Fistly, check my price lists and consider which size and medium you would like for your portrait. I can advise on what portrait type would be best for you based on your budget and reference photos.
2- Reference photos
A high-quality reference photo is required for me to create the best artwork of your horse or pet. Although I will do my best with the images I am provided if it is not possible to take new reference photos. If you are using your own reference photos, please ensure the subject is well-lit, either outdoors or by a window, and that the photo is taken at eye level. Choose a sharp image, please do not use a screenshot or an image downloaded from social media as this massively reduces the quality and makes it difficult for me to see important details.

Photography package
I now offer photoshoots, covering Merseyside and the surrounding areas. I highly recommend booking a photoshoot to get the best reference photos for your portrait. You will receive a discounted photoshoot for £40 as well as your commissioned artwork. If you are just a little further away but would still like the photography package, just let me know, and I can adjust the price to account for the extra travel. For more info on photoshoots, click the button below.
3- Deposit and composition sketch
Once a reference photo has been chosen, I will create digital mockups and start the initial sketch. At this stage I will require a 50% deposit, or for larger portraits I can accept payments in three parts. Once the deposit has been paid I will continue to work on the portrait, sending progress updates as I go.
4- Final payment and postage
Once the final payment has been made and you are happy with the artwork, I will package the portrait with a certificate of authenticity. If you have chosen the photoshoot package, you will also receive a download link to your edited photos. Your portrait will be posted via first class delivery.
5- Framing
If you have commissioned a pencil drawing, your portrait will already be mounted and ready for framing. I strongly advise that you take your portrait to a professional framer so that the artwork is best preserved and beautifully displayed. I would love to see a picture of your framed portrait in its place in your home, or pictured with your horse or pet!
